LD-3 Reefer Container
Temperature-controlled cargo solution (RKN)
Introduction to LD-3 Reefer (RKN)
The **LD-3 Reefer**, commonly identified by the IATA code **RKN**, is a specialized temperature-controlled Unit Load Device. It is derived from the standard LD-3 footprint but incorporates insulated walls and an internal climate control system. This ULD is essential for the global supply chain of perishables, pharmaceuticals, and sensitive electronics that require a consistent thermal environment during air transit.
Unlike standard dry containers, RKN units are equipped with either dry-ice cooling systems or advanced battery-powered electrical compressors. These systems can maintain precise temperatures ranging from -20°C to +20°C, regardless of the ambient conditions in the aircraft hold or on the tarmac.
Due to the added weight of the insulation and cooling equipment, the LD-3 Reefer has a slightly lower payload capacity than its dry counterpart. However, its ability to safeguard high-value, temperature-sensitive goods makes it an invaluable asset for specialized logistics providers.
