40' Refrigerated Container
Global standard for large-scale cold chain integrity and perishable goods.
Understanding the 40' Refrigerated Container
The 40-foot refrigerated container (Reefer) is the primary engine of the global perishable
trade. Designed to transport massive volumes of temperature-sensitive cargo, these units
maintain a precise internal climate through sophisticated cooling systems and high-density
insulation. From frozen seafood and chilled meats to fresh produce and pharmaceuticals, the 40'
reefer ensures that goods arrive in perfect condition after weeks at sea.
Structurally, 40' reefers use a specialized "T-bar" floor design to facilitate bottom-to-top
airflow, ensuring that cold air penetrates even the most tightly packed pallet stacks. They are
typically capable of maintaining temperatures between -35°C and +30°C. While the integrated
motor and thick insulated walls slightly reduce the internal volume compared to a dry van
(providing approx. 60m³), the 40' reefer remains the most cost-effective and reliable method for
moving large-scale cold chain shipments across the planet.
